An Old Apartment Reframed in a Contemporary Context

In Vake, on Razmadze Street, an old apartment has been given a completely new life by designer Nino Chkhartishvili. The main goal of the project was to renew the space in a way that transforms the past and present into one harmonious environment — a space where the old “architectural spirit” and contemporary form coexist naturally.

The transformation began with the layout — all internal partition walls that blocked the free movement of light were removed. As a result, the apartment now feels airy and bright.

As the designer notes, a cornerstone of the planning process was emphasizing the view of the interior courtyard and enhancing the visual connection to it. The windows overlooking the courtyard create a sense of peace and harmony, while the green inner space feels like an organic part of the interior.

In the living area, the kitchen is separated from the common space by two mirrored columns, creating a light, imagined border between the two zones. The kitchen design is centered around the glass section between the columns. Natural black stone finishes harmoniously blend with dark-toned panels enriched with golden details.

In the living room, symmetry and materiality play equal roles: a soft textile sofa and graphic leather chairs around a transparent table create a balance of calm and form. The texture of the flooring and natural fur rug continue the space’s visual line, while the metal legs of the table act as an architectural rhythm.

The centerpiece of the design is a Murano glass chandelier, uniting light and movement with its dynamic form. Minimalist metal lights complement it, distributing light softly and evenly. Together, they create an atmosphere that feels both clean and expressive — lively yet calm.

The bedroom becomes an intimate area where wood, leather, and glass interact to create a tactile balance. The strong texture of the wooden wardrobe contrasts with the natural leather bed, and the light elegance of the Murano chandelier adds refinement. Gentle lighting and a peaceful color palette make this space ideal for rest and inner harmony.

This apartment seems like a bridge between two eras — a space that preserves the memory of the past while creating a new story. In this harmonious balance between past and present lies the main charm of the designer’s project.
